Recently I had the opportunity to try out the new APRS IRC service and so far my experience has been nothing but positive. This service allows fairly real time communication and takes messaging to a new level. To start if you want to see what IRC channels are available you would send the following command to IRC:
/list
Get ready for a flood of messages because this command will list all of the available IRC channels. If you want to join the lounge channel you would send the command:
/join #lounge
To leave a channel simply send the command:
/leave #lounge
IRC gives the ability to message a large group of stations instead of sending each individual station a message. More information is available at https://aprs-irc.hemna.com/.
