The Mobilinkd TNC was a game-changer in APRS when it came into being several years ago. Hams no longer needed expensive HTs and mobiles with built-in TNCs to operate on APRS over RF. A variety of cables were available to work with most brands, and the TNC connected to any tablet, smartphone, or computer (except iOS) over Bluetooth. Configuration was much easier than other standard TNCs, and the Mobilinkd was extremely portable -- about the size of a small matchbox or a Zippo lighter.
Later upgrades, such as the TNC3, added BLE to accommodate iOS (Apple) devices. But then, supply-chain issues hit. It's been impossible to buy a TNC3 for over a year.
Recently, Mobilinkd announced the availability of a new, upgraded TNC4. It sold out almost immediately. But Mobilinkd now says it will be taking orders again in early March.

So... if you want a Mobilinkd TNC for your entry to APRS (or just enhance your current setup), you'll need to watch the Mobilinkd.com website and pounce.

The upgrades aren't enough for me to get a TNC4; I already have three older models. The big draw would be for those who don't have a Mobilinkd now, and those interested in the new M17 digital mode.
Still, new devices such as the Digirig Mobile ($59) are much cheaper if you are willing to use a wired connection to your computer rather than Bluetooth.
For portable and mobile RF-based APRS operation with a smartphone, though, the Mobilinkd TNC remains the best option. The internal battery can operate the TNC continuously for over two days, so you'd just have to worry about keeping your phone and HT charged for EmComm situations or camping.
If you've got $150 you can stand to part with, the new TNC4 is a great way to get into APRS.
