New Baojie BJ-218 mobile...??

  This is a confusing one, and I'm still trying to find out more about this radio from the manufacturer. Depending on how you read the AliExpress listing, the BJ-218 is a dual-band 10W mobile, or a 25W monoband rig with your choice of three bands (2M, 1.25M, 70cm), or a monoband that also receives on the other two bands. 

  An email to the sales rep, Elaine Huang (qzbj@qzbaojie.com), just confused things even more by her saying it's a "three band" radio.

EDIT: Elaine from Baojie has clarified matters. In about a month or so, there will be an updated version of the BJ-218. It will have 25W output and coverage on three bands (2M/1.25M/70cm). No word on price yet.

  The picture of the box says that it's a "10W Dual-receiving VHF/UHF" radio. In other places, it's described as a "2 separate receivers 25W dual band" radio. In yet another place, four different "models" are listed: 136-174, 220-250, 350-390, and 400-470. The RF output is listed as 10/6/3W, but also showing "new: 25W". This is the manufacturer's listing, not some re-seller.

  For a "mini" radio (and it looks small), the actual dimensions listed show it as about 6" square and 1.25" tall. That's about the size of a standard mobile radio, but somewhat thinner. 

  The only thing that's certain is that it costs $103, including shipping. 

Another listing is equally confusing and even deceptive. It implies that the front face separates ("Control head Separation with Ease"), has FM stereo ("Listen to FM Broadcast in Stereo with dual speakers on the rear of the control head"), boasts a "High-speed Band Scope", and mentions short-wave and aircraft reception. No 1.25M coverage is mentioned. Similarly, the power is listed as 25W, but the specs show the same 10/6/3W output. 

A third listing shows it as 10W dual-band (2M/70cm), and includes a programming cable. 

A fourth listing includes all of the BS of the second listing, and says that "the power on box is mistake, real power up to 25Wattes".

  If you've spent any time looking at AliExpress listings, you already know that deception is the norm. Two-metre radios are commonly listed as "HF", "short-wave", or "CB", for example. Much of this can be put down to the language barrier, but there's plenty of outright dishonesty.  

  My usual approach is to look at the manufacturer's listing, as it's usually the most honest and informed. In this case, though, I don't know what to make of this radio. My best guess is that this radio has been "upgraded' to 25W, that it's a dual-band rig with dual watch, and that there's a 1.25M model available (with no idea what the other band might be). There's no front-panel separation, no FM stereo, and no coverage of other bands. The "high speed scope" is just the standard display. 

  The only reason that I'm curious about this rig is that it's a good price for a 25W 1.25M transceiver. The BJ-218 could be an inexpensive way for local operators to explore the 220 MHz band, with enough power for simplex operation, too.
